Count Clane and Signor Museo ini's two sons participated in one of the biggest bombing raids the Italians have so far con ducted on the defences which the Ethiopians are busy con- structing in the valleys of Malwaf and. Twenty giant Italtam bombers left Asmara yesterday and a to number few hours later they sighted the enemy estimated about 15,000. The bombers dived within a hundred feet of the Ethiopians, dropping a hail of two-pound bombs and opening up with machine runs.

The enemy-were-scattered, but about a hundred were... hit. before they could reach cover. The attack was continued for two hours, the Ethiopians replying with anti-aircraft and ma- chine gun fire.

Count Clano: intcrviewed Reuter after his return, sad tha: bis plane was struck by three anti- aircraft shells and thirty six rife and machine gun bullets. Other planes were hit on an average of ten times each.

The piercing of his petrol tank forced him to land at Makale en route to Asmara, but the only casualty was mechanic, whose leg was shattered by a bullet, and who enabled his machine to be
