Informed Italian quarters stress that after the occupation of Makale, a pause lasting several weeks will take place before new offensive operations will be undertaken since it had been decided to consolidate beforehand the regions already occupied. -Transocean Kuo Min.

Naris, Nov 4. The question of whether sand- tions against Italy will also be extended to sports relations with that country was raised by "Petit Journal" in a message from Rome. The paper expects that the Ita-

Paris, Nov 3.

Great prominence was given by all sections of the Paris Preas to the report of Van Zeeland's inter- vention and proposal to the Sanc- tions Committee. Most papers re- garded this as support for M. America Stops Buying

London, Nov. 4.

For the first time in many days the American Treasury did not purchase silver in London to-day as the American authorities are unwilling to follow the rise of three-sixteenths caused by Indian and speculative purchases, and a'though China sold there was a shortage of supplies. '-

The action of India speculators is probably explained by the be- Wet that the Chinese Govern- ment's decision to call in silver will result in sharp curtailment of offerings. City circles, whilst ex- pressing approval of the action of the Chinese Government, confess inability to grasp the full implica- tions of the scheme pending publication of essential detalls and are anxious to know the price at which the Government will ne quire private sliver, what pro- portion will be deemed necessary CLS Currency backing. and will
