RIDES TWO WINNERS
Ideal weather which had made the track. conducive to good racing tavoured the Ninth Extra Race Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club which was, however, featured by poor attendance, due no doubt, to the various counter attractions. The large exodus of Chinese to Canton for the Flouble Tenth celebrations and the Interport Lawn Bowls were in a way responsible for this.
Racing was keen and fast and it was once again left to Abie Amazon to shatter another record. In the Canberra Randup Able Amazon returned the splendid time of 1 minute 57-2/5 sees, as against the old record of 1 minute 59-3/5 sees, for 1 mile and 171 yds.
Dividends on the whole were not high. The cash sweep tickets in particular only passed the $1,000 mark once in the corse of the afternoon's sport while only two high, dividends were returned.
In the first event of the day's programme Soldier of Peace returned $232.60 while in the Jordan Handicap, (2nd Section) Cad Eyes returned the highest dividend of the day by bringing in $275 to its 25 backers.
Sixty-five punters backel Jungle Jim in the second leg of the Daily Double and were each rewarded will $47,60. 1988
L. P. Ralph was the most successful jockey, returning two Brats while Donald" Black had a first, three seconds and a third flowed by L. G. Frost with a first, a second and two third.
