REINHARDT FILM"

Gives Shakespeare American Accent

Max Reinhardt's eagerly-awalt- ed film of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will have its "World premières" at London, New York and Paris to-day.

The film privately screened in America, reproduces faithfully all Shakespeare's dialogue and stage directions The only latitude taken was in the addition of scenery. The picture runs for 21 hours. It will be shown with a 10-minutes interval.

3-

The fim is notable because it has captured the German presario for the screen. For aver 15 years Reinhardt refused offers from Hollywood." But now, su pleased is he with the success of "The Dream," that he has con- sented to produce another film for Warner Brothers and has even cancelled his plans for pro- ducing "Die Fledermaus" at the Salsburg Music Festival.

CAGNET'S SUCCESS

The sensations. of the film 's the acting of James. Cagney- famous for his hard-boiled and the gangster parts-as Bottom Weaver. Hardly, the ideal man for the part, at first sight, but, according to Reinhardt himself: "The part of Bottom has never been played with such uncanny artistry."

There is certain to be discus- slon about the use of American. accents in a play by the greatest English dramatist. Some linguis- tic experts wil; defend it.

The film cost about £350.000

The first subject will be Bernard Shaw's "Saint Joan." with Elisa- beth Bergner in the role created by Dame Sybil Thorndike, The other nine films are planned for completion within twelve months,

One of the most experienced of American production supervisors. Robert T. Kane, will come to London and remain in charge of these subjects.

Hollywood stars and directora will also arrive to work in the films, and a number of British stars will, in exchange, be given chances to work in Hollywood.

This additional output is apart from Mr. Korda's own programme of British nims. It will mean employment to hundreds of no- tors, technicians and British wor- kers of all grades.

"Saint Joan" will be directed by Miss Bergner's husband, Dr Paul Czinner, who has made all her films:
