The annual general meeting of' the Hong Kong St. Andrew's So-; ciety was held in the Board Room, of Mesars. Jardine. Matheson & Co., Ltd. yesterday evening at 5.45 p.m. and was largely attended. A prominent absentee was the President, Mr. A. S. MacKichan, and Dr. C. J. Macgown took his place in the chair. Among those present were:~~

ELECTION OF OFFICERS The most important part of the programme, that of electing new office bearers for the coming year, was next attended to.

The only name mentioned n connection with the position of the new Chieftan was "Dr. Mac- gown. He was proposed as tre new President of the Society; the proposal being carried unanimous- ly.

Turning to the accounts «our balance sheet is still in a healthy state. Calls for charity and for assistance are again less than the

·previous years. The Bau account shows a small loss even after the transfer of the balance over from the Burns dinner.

The J. R. M. Smith Scholarship was awarded this year to whom we congratulate on his success.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Our Ball was held on St. An- drew's day and was as usual an unqualled success. The Burna Dinner was held on January 25th and the Immortal Memory Was proposed by Sir Atholl MacGregor in one of the finest speeches we have heard on this occasion,
