RICH MATERIALS ·

Give Dignity To Evening Gowns

White and pearly grey satin is graceful being featured in the

the moment, evening modes of writes correspondent. The newest make of satin is thick and gleaming, the ideal material for the moulded line, and gowns show the fish train.

The newer decolletage is easy to wear. It is cut low front and back. Simple lines are best satins and thick crepes in black of pastel-colourings, not forgetting white and silver. If possessed of jewels, the wearer can strike a note of true elegance.

Wraps must naturally be similar and somewhat costly char- acter. Ermine is the ideal fur, especially if the scheme is white, silver or all-black. Taffeta capes in 18th century colours are cool for hot nights. There is a new blush-rose-pink that is very at tractive, especially with tiny wreaths of roses worn in the hair Rings and wreaths of camellias and roses among curls are tied with ribbons and jewels.

Women welcome the continu- ance of long lines, with added Eastern draperies held by jewels. The Indian Bari is worn with dresses ut soft fabrics. Grecian gowns and sandals are still worn, but more straight-forward styles 1. gorgeous fabrics and of simple line are the safest purchase,

SKIRT OF MANY TOPS: The 1860 draper, with skirt dragged up at the back and worn with different tops, is an intrigu- ing and useful fashion by which we ring the changes for both day and evening occasion. A variety of "tops," high and low, is most useful for the holiday suit-case. One woman I know who travels a great deal take two skirts, both, beautifully atted in thick satin, and just touching the ground. One is in white and the other, in black. For these she has aix different tops. Four are for evening, and two for semi-even- ing year. One all-black top has

creamy stiffened lace top shows tong sleeves and a cut-out berthe edged with scarlet and white daisies. A plainly cut blue taffeta blouse 'does up at the back with small silvered buttons. This model comes to the hip-line with a wide belt of silver. It had plain sleeves and a neck-lne that reaches nearly to the throat, but is draped with a curious all- very bite Lamé.

The remaining top is in a white and

cut silvery crepe-cloqué, rather longer, in tunic form.

I mention these tops as a help to the woman who directly she is going on a holiday or visit has a desire to rush off and buy new clothes. She often ands that she has accumulated far too many that have no relation to each other.

There аго certain holiday haunts where regulation dinner gowns would be cut of place, and yet most of the young people their want chance to wear pretty clothes on holiday, especi ally away from home.

Ultra-Smart skirts are so tight that they must be slft from the knee down wards. Sometimes two alits are required to enable the wearer to move easily.

With long dresses, either touch- ing the ground all round or end- ing in a double train, the lit skirt is becoming to the long lithe figure, especially in swathed crêpes and satins. One model I saw fashioned on these very tight lines was in a pale pale blue" blue cloth. It was superbly drap- ed and worn with a long cape of black satin with a sliver fox col- lar.

"Lovers of black are expert- menting with jet once more, and variety of glittering sequins. There

sequired are attactive frocks, especially in deep blue. Emerald green and white is B charming evening combination of the moment.

Lane Crawfords store have just unpacked their new Autumn and Winter goods. You should see all the nice new Bags, Light Weight Dresses and beautiful Cocktail and Evening Gowns."

There was a very smart Petunia Velvet Gown with the new full- smocked sleeves, just the dress for Cockta! Partles.

The little Olive Green Tricotine Suit with new full sleeves was in- ished off with a gold and silver lame bow, and had a jacket to match. and was admired by many.

Another very pretty suit was in Brown and Torquo'se Bilk..

PARIS FASHIONS

Some Audacities Of The Season

Schiaparelli's new style unites primness with languor. "POINTERS FROM PARIS
