Saturday, Aug. 24. Silver prices rose yesterday "to the extent of 7/16 for Ready and 9/18 for Forward, the quotations being 29 7/18 and 291 respectively. Silver advices reported America, India and China as having bought. Offerings were

small. The market was quiet at the close and after the official fixing India operated both ways.

In America the rate rose 3/8 to 65 for spot.

The London/New York croBS- rate was lower at 4961 and the New York/London rate dropped 1/4 to 4971.

MarketTM Opened arm but towards the close eased off slightly. Bustness was fair.

Sterling Opened with sellers at 2/0 5/18 but the selling rate rose to 2/0 7/16, at, which rate, business was doze for near delivery. The market then, appeared a shade easier and offers at 2/01 were ac- cepted for near and October. Toward the close 2/0 5/16 was also done for September and Octoberanishing, with sellers at 3/01 for August/September and 2/05/15 for October/December, buyers at 1/16 higher respective
