At the present time there are 10 cruisers under construction for the Royal Navy. Inclusive of the Sydney for the Australian Fleet. Three of them, the Apollo, Galates, and Sydney, were authorized in 1932: the Newcastle, Southampton, and Penélope in 1933; and the Sheffield, Glasgow, Birmingham, and Aurora in 1934. The ships of 1932 will all be completed between now and December. Those of 1933 are still on the stocks, but the Newcastle should be launched in January next, the Southampton in February, 1936, and the Penelope in October, 1935. In addition to the 10, three more were authorized in the Navy Estimates presented In March, 1935. They are not yet named, and as hardly any funds were included for them will prob. ably not be laid down until 1936.
