DARING HOLD-UP

IN SHANGHAI

Shanghai, July 90. Hiring a taxi from a Chinese garage, three gunmen drove to the Houston Restaurant, ̧ ̈20 - Nanking Road, behind the Bassoon Bulla- ing, shortly before 10 o'clock last night. Producing their guns, the trio entered the restaurant, înti- midated the three assistants, and stole more than $300 in casa," which represented a part of yesterday's takings. The gunmen then forced the taxi chauffeur to get out of his car and the vehicle was then i driven away at high speed by one of the gunmen. A report was im- mediately made to the Central Po- Hce Station by both the tax chauf- feur and the restaurant proprietor and officers were sent out to in- vestigate, but, up to a late hour last night, no arrest had been made

According to the story of the chauffeur, the trio sent a telephone message to his garage last night. ordering a taxi to be sent to the Greater Shanghai Hotel, near the corner of Nanking and Cheklang Roads. When the taxi arrived, he could not find the men who had telephoned for the taxi in

the hotel room from which the mes sage had been sent, but he even- tually found the trio at the frost gate of the hotel. After taking them for a drive, he was told to go to the Houston Restaurant."

Before alighting, the chauffear continued, the trio ordered him to

park his car on Jinkee Road in- stead of Nanking Road, so he did not know what happened in the restaurant until he was forcibly ejected by the men at the point of pistols. The taxl was of the Kiangsu Garage behind the Sun San Co.
