OLD HONG KONG FOLKS All Billy Smith's old friends will envy me when they hear that I saw a great deal of her in my four days. In Shanghai. She is just the same as ever, and as popular in Shang- hai as she was in Hong Kong, and she looked lovely at her cocktail party in a white chiffon dress. There were several old Hong Kong folk there including Rabin Vise who resembles his cousin "Tiny". Munro so remarkably. He is just off to England alas, and'is travel- ling via Siberia.

Bert Moncrieff is very busy in his new job, but still has time to be very amusing. The Cavanab-- Mannerings are a new naval couple en route for Wel Hai Wel-I pre- dict that she will figure a lot in social circles when they return to Hong Kong in September, and will definitely enter the ranks of the "lovelies."

VIENNESE ATMOSPHERE The Park Hotel is a favourite place to dine. It is a miniature sky scraper, and the flluminations area wonderful sight seen from a window seat in the restaurant." There is a string band which gives a Viennese atmosphere which is perfectly fascinating. Mrs. Beith Junior was dining at the next table to ours, and looked lovely in a enormous hat turned back from her-face. After dinner we went onto the Paramount where there. Is the best band I have ever danced to, and the best floor too.

At one side there le a long har presided over by two good looking German men, and some lovely "Viennese girls. Upstairs there is a glass dance floor with coloured lights beneath it. And further up still is the Blue Danube which has the most Bohemian and cosmopolitan atmosphere in the world.

Two Viennese planists play any- thing you like all the time, and anybody, guests or artistes, are Hable to get up and do a turn. Shanghai seems to have gone very Viennese - lately.
