Ladies Admitted

An extraordinary general meet- ing of members of the Kowloon Cricket Club was held at the Club's pavillon yesterday, when certain sanction was given to alterations and additions, made to "the Club's articles of association

Two of the proposals passed were of an important nature, viz. (1) the abolition of the Ballotting Committee and the vesting of ballotting powers in the hands of (2) the General Committee, and

of the Club the admittance to ladies as Lady subscribers.

RESOLUTION CARRIED His Honour Mr. Justice R. E. Lindsell presided over the meet- ing. In connection, with the pro- posal for the abolition of the Bal- lotting Committee; the Chairman explained that it has been found, after many years experience, that it was very difficult to obtain the necessary quorum at meetings of the Ballotting Committees, as result. of which there was delay in

those granting membership to seeking that privilege. The can- celling of the Ballotting Sub- Committen and the transferring of ballotting duties to the General Committee would undoubtedly Im

direction, prove matters in this explained the Chairman.. The re- solution was unanimously adopted. THE LADIES

Double Header Shared

New York, July 4.

The New York Yankees made one of their occasional slips in the American Baseball League- to-day when they were only able to share a double header with the Boston Red Sox, who won the first match by a single run.

Detroit Tigers are still holding. on to their position and are not far behind the leaders. To-day they beat Cleveland Indians in a double header.

The New York Giants, leaders re- of the National League, are ceiving little opposition. from "the other clubs and a double victory against the Boston Braves has fur- ther consolidated their position.

Results of matches played to- day, as cabled by Reuter are ap- pended:

BOY MEMBERS

A proposal suggesting that mem- bership should be granted to boys who have reached the age of 19 failed to secure the votes needed. On the suggestion of Mr. E. Kern, the Chairman recommended that the General Committee seriously consider allowing boys between the years of 15-19 to be admitted to the Junior Section of the Club. An amendment granting member- ship to those who have attained the age of 21 years only was also

defeated.

NORMANDIE'S NEW RECORD

Bremen Beaten By 12 Hours

Special Air Mail Service)

London, June 14. When the Normandie reached

Le Havre to-day on the completion of her maiden voyage from New York the glant French liner added another record to her achievement, on the western rin.

By her crossing of the Atlantic from the Ambrose Lightship to Bishop Rock, Sellly Isles, 3,015 miles, in 4 days 3 hours 25 minutes at an average speed of 30 31 knots, she beat the Bremen's record set up on June 15, 1933, as the following comparison shows:

TIME, SPEEL. D. K. M. Knota. 4 3 25 30.31 4 16 15 28.51 The liner's time over same dis-

tance on the outward run, when she captured the blue riband from the Italian liner Rex, was 4 days 3 hours 5 minutes, at en average speed of 30.1. knots.

The return voyage took 20 minutes longer, although the ever- age speed-30,31 knots was faster. This is accounted for by the fact

that wind and currents on the eastward run make deviations 'ne- cessary. These added 35 miles to the distance.
