SPEECH DAY AT ST. STEPHEN'S
Sir Thomas Southorn Gives Away Awards
Amid spontaneous clapping from all present, and the firing of crackers, Six Thomas and Lady Southorn made au auspicious entry accompanied by Mr. Lee, private secretary into the Main Hall of the College Stanley, yesterday, when a large gathering was present to hear a very satisfactory report presented by the Headmaster on the occasion of the annual Speech Day,
A prayer was offered by the Rev G. K. Carpenter, after which Bishop Hall addressed the gathering.

THOSE PRESENT Lady Scathorn was the recipi- cant of a bouquet of flowers, pre- sented by Tso Wat Huan, grand- son of Dr. Tso, which was received graciously amid much applause At the same time, Sir Thomas was presented with a vase and black- wood stand by Ip Hung Shui, 2 senior prize winner. Sir Thomas received his gift first, and rose at once to join the applause that greeted Lady Southern when she received her gift. Amongst those

FINEST SITE IN COLONY · I should also like to congratulate the Headmaster on the excellent health enjoyed by the school. To the outward eye this is and must always have been, one of the finest sites in the Colony and it is not surprising that it should have been chosen in the early forties as the site for a military cantonment. It turned out, as you know, a whited sepulchre but modern science has shown us how to overcome the dif- ficulties of bad water and malaria and it is a great satisfaction to the Government to see this won- derful stte again devoted to a worthy purpose.
