Mr. Herry Gullen, secretary of the Championship Committee, ex- plained that nà entry had been received from Brews, and that in any case it could not be accepted if it arrived any time after the official closing date, which Was Thursday of last week.

BREWS SURPRISED Brews, who competed in the American Open Championship last week, is at present" in New York and he was taken by aur- prise when he learned that this entry had not been received.

He stated that he posted it from South Africa in March, and later in the day he sent a cable to that effect to Mr. W. NormSIL Boase, chairman of the Cham- pionship Committee.

Following receipt of the cable Mr. Boase stated that there was absolutely no trace of any entry from, Brews having been received, but if Brews could provide reason- able proof that his entry was sent, the whole matter would be reconsidered.

Mr. Gullen said: "I am extreme- ly sorry that this has occurred, but I do not think anything can. be done until Brews arrives in this country. Then he can provide the Committee with some evidence
