THE KING

On Parade With His Sons

(Special Air Mail Service)

London, June 7.

The King, on his 70th birthday, attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony on the Horse Guards Parade an occasion which was for EWO reasons exceptionally

brilliant.

In the first place, It had been feared up to the as moment that the unfavourable weather condi- tions might prevent his Majesty being present. His appearance was the signal for particular en- thusiasm

Posthumous Awards" Made

London, June 24.

The King has made posthumous award of the Albert Medal, given only in cases of exceptional gai- lantry and devotion, to Thomas Gibson, late-cook, for life saving at sea. Pieces of plate and other awards are made also to masters and various officers and members of crew of the Belgian · steamer Jean Jadot, and the Cunard White Star Liner Ascania who displayed great bravery and skili in saving men of the Usworth during a vic- lent gale in mid-Atlantic last De- cember.

Two members of the crew of the Jean Jadot were drowned when their life boat capsized and post- humous awards are made in their

case!

The tradition of Jubilee weather held, the clouds (ifted. and just as

He was a strong swim- mer and was within a stroke or two of the lifeboat which the "Ascania" had launched when the boy cried for help and turned back for him both being
