PARIS FASHIONS

Perfection In Tailoring

The milliners are very active, Reboux is making hats with brima which are warn tilted over the brow after the fashion of 1880. She is also making boater hats and berets for morning and coun- try wear, Louise Bourbon is sell- ing large tulle and lace hats trim- med with velvét ribbon. Flowers are used to trim straw and net. Sequins are sewn on lace and net. Black lace is stretched over col- oured silk foundations, The hats of the season are decorative and feminine-in style..

At a recent ball striped taffetas dresses were the fashion; bisck and white, blue and white, yellow. white and black, red and green. and, again, black and white bro- caded with bunches of flowers. The full skirt and trim bodice with sleeves is the common fas-

hion for taffeta "dresses, but

there were bustle dresses at this ball which were also made of taf- fetas. They hug square or point. ed necklines and were drawn close about the hips to full-dra- perles behind. The charm of tai- feta dresses. lies largely in the quality of the material, Any- thing which is not of the first quality looks shoddy. Maggy Rouft's dinner dresses with wide bell sleeves brightly lined are among the styles which are easy to wear, and are perfect for a little dinner at home or a theatre party,

DIFFERENT SLEEVES Sleeves are in many different styles in fashionable afternoon dresses. The leg-of-mutton sleeve is put into silk dresses. Draped elbow sleeves, such as Lucile Paray makes, drop to "deep point, are full and looped,

bodice. Many dressmakers have ased the wide armhole from which to drape graceful sleeves. The slit sleeves such as Robert Piguet delights in and the long Renals- sunce sleeve made by Jeanne Lanvin are graceful. Cape slee- ves set into a wide armhole are gathered into a wristband to be

gauged on the shoulders and again at the cuffs.

The fashions now worn by day are trim and pleasing. At the Concours Hippique recently ́a girl wore a navy blue coat and dress with a scarf and hat of figured blue and white Surah. Another had on a thin ́tweed coat and skirt in a green and grey mixture, worn with a grey and green checked taffetas blouse cut high to the neck. The coat is made with a full basque in front. held in place by a belt, The hát raatches the blouse and is shap ed like a poke bonnet with "the poke rolled back. The redingote has also been worn at the Hip- pique, It has the advantage, when made In a plain material and lined to match, of going with any dress, figured or in a different colour. Ferfection in tailoring is essential. There is no slipshod work in the best fashions of the spring.

DAINTY NAILS”

People notice your hands. Dantly cared for nails are grens charm. At this time of year they are apt to get dry and britle. Gream should be rubbed in round the neis, after washing in softened water, every night, Nails should be trimmed and nied to the shape of the fingers. If the nails are thin outing scissors may be preferred

Creed offers summer tailor-made clothes in linen and shantung.. There is a royal blue linen dress which has a slim, buttoned bodice with short tight sleeves and rounded neck; with It is a trim

Even when a débutante wears slik, It will be of a simple cut. A black crêpe dress has a trim litte white satin jacket made with far- ved basques and triangular pockets stitched with black like the collar. Little jackets of coloured on figur ed materials are. worn with sim- lar little hats. For informal din ner parties débutantes wear clinging dresses of Agured crêpe! or full dresses of spotted or strip- ed linen or musin with big puff- ed sleeves. In full evening dress they may wear satin, whether white, pale rose, or pale blue, or the same colours in crêpe or plain cloky. Flowers rather than Jere's are the ornaments. The Ccape, with a hood or a sari is the most general form of wrap. A good many evening dresses, though of delicate texture, are cut with tailored precision:

QUICK CHANGE

Colour Schemes For Summer

Smart young people have dis- covered that the summer suit pro- vides them with a quick-change wardrobe.

It is a season of contrasts.! Even an ensemble may have an entirely different skirt cost and blouse. A navy suite with white or with astome

waist-coaty gloves and hat of brightly spotted foulard. A black tailor- ed skirt is smart worn with a gay Coral black and belge spotted blouse, and a smart cut-away coat in beige linen and linen material.

White and pale shades in lawn and ane lingerie shirts are often selected for town wear.

Blues in the paler shades ar often cleverly allied with faded 11ac and prim-rose. I saw a attractive little suit in blue ecti ton crêpe. The short sac coa showed a waistcoat of liliac wool with yellow, blue and lilac initial worked in silk, and a swathed beret, belt, and crêpe handbaj of the three colours. It was pretty and very useful for wat

days.

The belt craze is charming, but fraught with an element 0 danger. The width...of a belt should be very carefully chosen The young and slim are wise li taking every advantage of this attactive revival from the nine- ties, Older women will stress

Navy once again challenges black as a favourite for the town. suit. Navy serge-silk or a heavy crêpe is smart made, with neat trim short skirt and cut-away jacket. With it can go a white Blouse with castellated frills em- broidered with dark and pale blue dots. (The hat" and acces=" sories should speli perfection. The bag, gloves and shoes could be of fine dark navy kid, intercepted with touches of white.

This model is charming when pumicestone grey takes the place of white, In this case the blouse will be of heavy crêpe in the grey, with fine stitchery.

Belt, buttons and shoes provide ample means of variety. Many Bac or cardigan coata and more fitting kinds as well have a set "of buttons that can be used like links, and varied with the other accessories.

Women have, how-t ever, to be careful when chang- ing belts, buttons and shoes, for if one detail should strike a dis- cordant note the entire dress scheme is ruined.
