“REBUILDING

Germany Ready To Co-Operate

(Special to the "Hong Kong Daily.

"Press" (Copyrigát).)

Berlin, June 6, Germany's willingness to co operate with other nations in an endeavour to rebuild the shaken 'edifice of world economy was stres- sed once more by the Reich Min- Ister. of Economy, and Reichs- President Schacht in D speech delivered before the Eleventh International Wool Con- ference which opened here Thursday.

Referring to the vast confusion and insecurity prevailing in the économic lives of most countries, and caused by the policial mis- takes of the past, Schacht went on to say that International, potti. cal as well as economic confer- ences bad cutlived their usefulness. For this reason meetings of pri- vate businessmen who were dir- ectly interested in the maintance and revival of international econo- mle relations probably could afford more appropriate means of re- turning to normal conditions.

The speaker appealed to the de- legation to do their utmost, in their own countries to form inter- national co-operation, thereby con- tributing their share to the tran- quilisation of nations.

Schacht insisted that the exces

Germany, stressed Schacht, must put up with the foreign · trade situation as best she can but she was ordering her affairs at home in such a way that unemployment would be banished and peace, and security be established in her economic lire.

PRESS PREDICTIONS.

For two and a half years the for- eign press had unceasingly. pro- phesied Germany's economic and financial collapse but the speaker could only point out that these pre- dictions had not; and would not come to pass. -

Germany's policy of maintaining stable economic conditions and safeguarding her economy from the convulsions which to-day had the whole of the world in their grip, provided the greatest- guar- antee for the private business man who could reckon with established conditions and the maintenance of traditional merchants code of honour..

In order to preserve this situa- tion Germany had been obliged to adopt unusual measures, such as barter transactions, and provision- al non-transference of certain for- eign obligations, but these were Inevitable as consequences result- ing for Germány from the world's unsettled.condition

The question, "the speaker con- cluded which he wished to ask the world was whether it could afford to forego a nation of 68 million consumers. Events had shown that the world, regarding this from an economic standpoint, did not wish to lose this market.-- Transocean Kur Min
