Chairman of the Provincial Government. Mr. Lin Yun Koy, la to be congratulated on bringing it about for It was on his invitation that the Hong Kong delegates made the trip. Situated as they are in such advantageous positions. the two ports are Inter-dependant and for that reason much closer relations between Canton and Hong Kong, than has existed in the past, is not only desirable, but also highly, essential for the good of both parties. The two ports-British Wireless, have, for mary years, been on the most friendly terms.. True there have been differences of opinions at times but these have always been settled amicably and it speaks much for the Governments of both places that in spite of the fact that times have been really difficult of recent years, this feeling of good- will has not suffered at all, but to quote the vice-chairman of the Canton Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Ho Chap Hing, "it must be ad- mitted that we lack that kind of intimacy which promotes mutual confidence." Unfortunate though It is, there is no doubt that there Is a lot in what Mr. Ho said and the sooner the fault is corrected; the sooner we can hope to bring about an improvement in trade. As the speaker in question said "trade conditions, in Canton and the Colony of Hong Kong are far from being satisfactory, but they car be improved to a considerable extent. I do not under-rate the difcuties of the position, but I am strengthened in my optimism by the possibility of genuine co- operation between the Hong Kong and Canton Chambers of Com- merce. Our present meeting con- vinces me that this possibility is rapidly being realised."
There is no doubt that inter- change of visits play an important munities into closer co-operation. part in bringing the two com-

Your Excellency and Gentlemen, It is customary for the Comman- dang on this annual occasion to give a short resume of the Corps activities during the past year-I will be as brief as possible,
The Corps has had a very busy Medal.
The average attendance.. therefore of members of the Corps attending Parades, is far higher than before. Three Units of the Corps had every member efficient under the terms of the Volunteer culations to judge the award of the Nathan Cup for Biciency which goes to the Motor Machine Gun Section, followed very closely by the Engineer Company, the laver age attendances of these units being over 48 parades, with the Corps Battalion Signals hot far behind. In fact those who criticize the Corps would be surprised if they could study the agures of all our units: without being invidious, for example, the Corps Infantry (Portuguese) had only 10 in- efficients out of 141,
