A reply tn the House of Com- mons on Wednesday in relation to the personnel of the Fleet Air Arm is causing a good deal of discussion in both the Navy and Air Force. Commander Marsden asked the First Lord whether the Admiralty intended to alter the existing arrangements with the Air Council for the purpose of enabling naval petty officers to qualify as pilots in the Fleet Air Arm under the same conditions as sergeant pilots of the Royal Alt Force now employed in the FAA, Sir Bolton Byres Monsell stated in reply that the existing arrange- ments were the result of B Government decision made n 1938 and could not be altered by departmental action.
