the Governing University. He was a Crown re- presentative

of Oriental Body of the school Studles, London Institution, and a Member of the Royal Asiatic-So- clety."

Rev. Soothu, who was 'in his 75th year, was a missionary of the United Methodist Church at Wen- chow 1882 to 1907, during which time he established churches, hospital, college and schools. He complied the Wenchow romanised system, etc.

He has been President of the Imperial University of Shans [3540 Province from 1907 to 1911, and during the Great War, he was Director of Y.M.C.A, religious work. He was the author of many publi- cations dealing with China.- Reuter,
