FAREWELL TO HIS EXCELLENCY AND LADY

Hong Kong Pays Homage To Friend And Counsellor

1

Help And Co-operation Appreciated

In disposition Your Excellency is kindly and considerate; great is your learning and profound your knowledge: above all, you have preferred resolute ac- tion to empty words. We remember that when you were transferred here in the summer of 1930 many problems awaited decision, and a multitude of reforms were wanted. By your great ability these were met without difficulty, and all questions, great and small, were settled as with a stroke of the sword; whereat the Colony was at peace and no calamities arose. But for your Excellency this could not have been accomplished. For this first will your memory live."

The above was one of the passages included in the Chinese address of fare. well, which together with the one read by Hon, Sir Henry Pollock on behalf of the community in general, was presented to His Excellency the Governor, Sir Wil lium Peel, K.C.M.G., K.B.E. in the presence of a large and distinguished gather- ing in the Great Hall of the flang. Kong University last evening,

Lady Peel was also present and glowing references were made of the good work she has done on behalf of the Colony, more especially in connection with the problem of child welfare..
