Dividends At The Race Course

TOUCHSTONE'S SENSATIONAL WIN

; the sensational win of Touch.. A new record for the mule for "Australians stone; several close Gnishes and good dividends-these were the features of the Second Day of the Easter Race Meeting held yesterday in glorious weather but in the presence of a comparatively small gathering.

Touchstone, with Mr. Proulx up, provided the sensation of the day by annex ing the Blue Pool Handicap" from a field of 10 starters which included such favourites as Seventeenth of September and Wadebridge, and incidentally returned the biggest dividend for the Meeting-$495 10.

A new, record for the mile, for "Australians" was created by Saucy Face (Mr. Pih) in the Broken Hill Handicap" when it returned the time of 1.45 mins. which heat the previous best set up by Able Amazon by 1 3/5 secs.

The classic of the Meeting the Easter Stakes was comfortably won by the champion pony, Liberty Bay.

The dividend for the Daily Double--Victoria Hall and Saucy Face-was $891.70.

LIBERTY BAY WINS EASTER STAKES

SUGAR LOAF HANDICAP Eleven ponies faced the starter In this race in which Soldier of Honour was the hot favourite, and it did not disappoint its backers, winning by three lengths from Paciic Hall with Arctic Star third. a neck behind. Arctic Star took the lead from the start, followed closely by Twenty Grand : and Pacifte Häll Arctic Star gradually increased its lead and at the Black Rock it was seen to be leading by about four lengths. At the last quarter, however, the pony slacken- ed, while on the other hand both Soldier of Honour and Pacific Hall were gradually coming up. In the Straight Soldier of Honour flashed past followed by Pacific Hall which had a great struggle with Arctic Star for second place. Flybynight, the second favourite; was unplaced.

BLUE POOL HANDICAP

A sensotional upset was register- ed in this race, Touchstone, with Mr. Proulx up, winning from a field of 10 starters which included such favourites as Invermark, Seven- teenth of September and Wade- bridge. Mr. E, H. Carvalho on Straithnaird was unseated just after the race was started, but for- tunately be was not seriously hurt the forehead, except a cut on Touchstone took the lead from the start and gradually broke away with Emergency Call and Valley View about three-lengths behind. the Black Rock, Wadebridge crept up but still could not overtake the leader.

Woodland Stag tried, lead and about 100 yards from hard to figure in the first four and home Sel-Fa broke away and won succeeded for a short spell being by 2 lengths. later passed again by Snowy River and Alacrity which took second and third places respectively. Alacrity was the hot favourite.

KELLETT HANDICAP (1st Section) Twelve ponies went on with a good start in this race which was won by The Tiger, with Bistre second and High Honour third. Mistake Bay which carried the largest number or backers was un- placed. The start saw Wayward Stag in the lead followed closely by Mistake Bay, Mayflower, High Honour, Spinaway and Bistre, Way- ward Stag slackened at the Black Rock and was passed by Mistake Bay, High Honour and The Tiger. On the straight home, The Tiger took the lead but meanwhile Bistre had also come up and was ruaning strongly with the result that a een struggle ensued between these two ponies. The Tiger eventually won by a neck.
