TREAT FOR SOCCER FANS

Shield Finals And Governor's Cup Matches

·POLICE AND CHINESE TO MEET

(By "PIVOT")

All attention this week end will be centred on the struggle for supremacy in the Senior and Junior Shield Competitors in which Police will have an opportunity of proving their worth against S. China "B". The Governor's Cup final game between the H.K.C.A.A.F, and H.K.FA will be played to-morrow when an— other interesting and exciting encounter should be witnessed.

Coming to the Shield ties, opinion is divided as regards the chances of the senior teama, hut I am of "the opinion that the Police stands the better chances of annexing the shield.

Take "the ground conditions for instance. Owing to the drizzle and rain that has been continually

having won once. The last occa- sion the Chinese won by a some- what doubtful goal and it will also going on, this would naturally soft-be remembered that the game

was marred by frayed tempers.

en the ground to such an extent as to put it on the heavy side. The Chinese being the lighter of the two teams will find difficulty in "keeping their feet and the Police will take full advantage of it.

The two teams play just the opposite types of football. South China exploits the short passing. pattern weaving type of football with finnsse written in every mave- ment, whereas the Felice, once they get the ball, they make directly for the goal.

∙as ever

They have, besides, one of the sturdiest defences in local leagu: With Gough playing as soccer. well

and. Parker and Brooks just as reliable, and with Blackburn "and Pile (C) covering the rear this combination ought to present a problem to any for ward line.-..

Johnston and Stevens in the forward line will just about give the Chinese the necessary worry and no doubt their shooting prowess will be made full use of to-day. Police wingers are not quite so impressive but I am fully confident that Moss' bustling methods will have a lot to do to undermine the Chinese half back line

CHINESE SPEED)

The Association has made several changes in the team, and with Albert Howe and Albert Ward once again in the forward line, the Chinese will have their hands full in keeping check on them. The defence is all that may be expected. Rowlands, A. V. Gösano and File (C) will present a big turdle to the Chinese and Keneghan, Beltrao and Parker can rest easy with such backs to back hem up. B. Gosario and Bick- ford on the wing ought to be able to put in some good centres. Ridley will be seen to advantage with his ever scheming methods.

CHU AN FAI DOUBTFUL The Federation is playing with practically the same team that was victorious

in the last encounter with the exception of Li Tin Sang and Ho Chor Yin who are stili on the suspended list. Much however will depend on Chu Ah Fat, their pivot, whom I understand is a doubtful starter. If this is so the hard to Federation will and it all the gap with a man of his calibre.

LOCAL HOCKEY

German Players Here

The M. S. Tatsuta Maru brought with her yesterday afternoon tën members of the Shanghai Ger- man Hockey team who are here to try conclusions with the local teams. The eleventh man Moeller arrived earlier in the day from Manila by the Empress of Canada. Interviewed after their arrival Mr. Welzell stated that they did not in the least mind the weather at all as they were accustomed to it but would rather like to play on a harder surface. They had been without practice in Shanghal for three works due to the closure of the grounds.
