"Mr. Chairman and gentleman In rising to second the adoption of the report and accounts, I am sure shareholders will agree with me that, although we have suffered a loss of $8,391.53 for the year, we should not be depressed over the situation, when one considers that we have had to meet far keener

"In view of these facts, I trust, the Directors and executive will not lose sight of the difficult times and more competitive conditions which have to be faced in the future.

A SAD PASTING The function was an informal affair

all and

those

present thoroughly enjoyed themselves, there being a toast for every item on the menu!

In a brief speech. Mr. Gilbert Harriman said that he was quite sure all would agree with him when he sald how sorry they werė to have been forced to say "good- bye" to their old pal "Johnny," He hoped however, it was only "au revor as he was sure that they would very much like to see Johnny again. He knew that in his (Mr. Heard's) heart he would long to come back.

Referring to Mr. Heard's 1850- clation with the local turf, Mr. Harriman said that he had been one of them for the last 30 years and during that time had always ridden with "guts and honesty and had been a "par" to them all.

"I am sure," said Mr. Harriman, "that he goes away with, the goodwill and the best wishes of all of us. (Hear, hear). We all wish him long life and prosperity in the old country. I will now call our leading jockey, "Leo" to present to "Johnny" a souvenir which we hope will not wear out too soon." (Appause).

THE CALL OF THE EAST

think ourselves

stay away from them for long for there is an attraction out East which "brings one back, and he hoped this attraction would have the effect on Mr. Heard.

PACKED WITH GOOD WISHES

Continuing, Mr. Frost said: "I sincerely hope that he will come back for even if he cannot.com- pete with us with an extra 40 inches round the wast, we DIRT still meet him in the bar. Inside this small bag is packed our very good wishes and when I present him this little thing, the cost for which is not much, I can assure him that it is packed with all the good wishes of the jockeys and gentlemen present. I wish it will..

luck carry him good

and wif make him come back and jola us in the very near future." [Ap plause).

In his reply, Mr. Heard recalled days in the racing in the old Newchwang, Shanghai and Hong novice Kong and advised the jockeys to train every day for one. he said, could not expect to turn up once a week and ride winners. "I feel that I may come back": said Mr. Heard, "but certainly"not in 1936, although I may be with you for four months in 1937, but It is in the hands of the gods. I very much appreciate the honour you have accorded me and I thank you very much indeed."
