The preview of this film was screened yesterday at the Queen's Theatre. The scene is held in that delightful city, Vienna, which always augurs of light, cheerful and amusing work. The hero is Ramon Navarro who takes the Part of a debonair young Archduke, sowing his wild oats. Evelyn Laye, the pretty
and English blonde
heroine, is a ballet dancer at the Vienna Opera House. They mest after the play and she is given an apartment in the Archduke's Palace. While there she is visited by her old friends. Charles Butter- worth who is a taxi-driver and his best girl. Una Merkel who is also. a ballet girl at the Opera House.

A
transition in character,
and both physical spiritual, is developed by Ruth Chatterton as "Frisco Jenny" in the First National picture of the same title showing at the Oriental Theatre on Friday and Saturday.
This "transition covers twenty- five years of Frisco Jenny's le, from the time she is an innocent girl of seventeen until she becomes a woman of maturity.
The role is quite different from any that Mis Chatterton has recently depicted but is not dissi- milar to some of her former screen portrayals, such as "Madame X", in which she made one of her It striking success Frisco Jenny is a highly dramatic story of a woman, keeper of a notorious resort, who does not hesitate to commit murder, yet whose mother love is so great that she sacrifices her own life to save her son from the knowledge of her shame,

London, Mar. 15. The film business is full of iron- les, but none more striking than this-that it has been left to Holly- wood to turn out one of the most essentially British pictures ever made.
"David Copperfield," given an en- thusiastic reception as the Palace Theatre last night, was produced and "directed by Americans; and perhaps half the cost is Englisių, Yet nowhere is there a jarring
note.
David Selznick, the producer. George Cukor, the director, and Mr. Hugh Walpole as adviser, spent the best part of a year and endless pains and money on making the
picture as authentic as possible.
It is a proof of their success that while all but the more rabid Dic- kensians will and it agreeably true to the original, the great majority who do not know the book will find it absorbing entertainment.
The picture, ilke the book, has almost everything, sound char acterisation, sentiment. which only just falls to achieve the dignity of drama and a deal of brilliant comedy-for which, of course, Mr Micawber and Betsey Trotwood are mainly responsible.
