Hitler Joins In The Discussions

(Special to the "Hong Kong

(By Telegraph, Copyright, Taia graphic Messages Ordinance. 1894 Received March 25, 7-80 p.m.)

Berlin: March 25, The conversations between Herr Hitler, Sir John Simon and Mr. Anthony Eden began at the Reich Chancellery this morning at а quarter past ten. The British Am- bassador, Sir Eric Phipps, Foreign Minister, Baron von Neurath and the Chancellor's special commis- stoner, von Ribbentropp are also taking part in the conversations which after a brief luncheon will be resumed in the afternoon. In order to save time and speed up the discussions no formal exchange of visits between Herr. Hitler and the British Minister will take place.

ROUMANIA'S POLICY

Bucharest, March 24. The Roumanish Foreign Minis- ter, M. Titulescu, left here to-day for a two days' visit to Belgrade, the Yugo-Slavian capital, before continuing on to Prague, Czecho- Slovakian capital.

Before leaving, the Foreign Min- Ister saw King Carol of Roumania and also the French Minister to Bucharest.

He has refused to make a state ment officially, but it is reported that he favours the Powers using "the mailed fist."

It is believed in diplomatic cit- cles that the Roumanian Govern- ment is of the opinion that, if Hungary introduces conscription. Roumania should repeat her action of 1919, and occupy Budapest.- Reuter.

AND JOCKEYS

Very Gloomy View

In London

London, March 25. The city is taking a most gloomy view of the future of the Gold Bloc, many being of opinion that

Belgian adherence to gold is now only a matter of days. Next to Belgium, Italy and Switzerland are most suspect, while there is a growing belief

will that Spain shortly link up with sterling.

Mistrust in the city is expressed by the extraordinarily heavy dis- counts now being quoted, namely three months belgas, liras and pesetas are now quoted at two belgas, two and a half Itras and one and three quarters pesetas count respectively.

319-

In the meanwhile Belgium and Italy, the only nominal gold stan- dard countries, are both consider- ably under parity with Paris, which ought to lead to heavy shipments of gold to Paris and elsewhere ex- cept for the severe exchange re- strictions now operating Reuter.".

SCOPE OF DISCUSSIONS

J

»Berlini, March 25, Mutual information, rather than definite agreements are regarded. in, British circles as the main pur- pose of the discussions, while Ger- man diplomats divide the issues into those whereon bargaining is possible, namely the Air Pact and Navy, and those on which agree- ment is most difficult, for example conscription, Eastern Locamo and Austria:

The Colonies and the Memel question are not likely to be dis

cussed as the former will campit cate the issue and is not included in the purpose of Sir John Simon's visit which is confined to European security, while Memel is regarded in British circles as an affair for the League.

اله

Difficulties are not expected in connection with the Air Pact for which Germany is anxious, nor on naval matters whereon she at pre- sent has moderate ambitions. The unofficial idea is that she is con- tent with a nayy totalling 400,000 tons with submarines. The main thorn is Eastern Locarno.

A high official told Reuter that
