HOLD ANNUAL DINNER

A large and distinguished gathering. Including His Excellency the Governor, attended the 45th annual dinner of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders which was held at the premises of the Instituto last night when the President, S. T. Williamson was in the chair. In the course of his speech, His Excellency paid a' glowing tribute to the work done by engineers in general while the président referred to the developments, which had taken place during the past year.

Reference was made, during the evening, so the magnificent new home of the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, and a tribute paid to the engineers responsible for the construc- tion of the building. The rooms of the Institute were galley de corated with bunting and greenery and amongst those present were Sir Thomas Southern, C.M.G., Mr. R. M. Henderson, Prof. E A. M. Smith, Engr. Capt. R. C. Hugill, M.V.O., O.B.E., Major D. H. Steers, R.E., Mr. V. M. Grayburn, Col. M. H. Logan. Sir William fornell, Messrs. E. Cock, N. L. Smith, J., M. Jack, K. E. Greig, Cdr. J. B. Newill and many others.
