British Note To Germany

[Special to the "Rong Kong Daily Press" (Copyright).]

Berlin, Mar. 18.

A note setting forth the objec tions of the British Government to the Relch's law of March 18 con- cerning the organisation of Ger- many's defence, was handed over to Baron von Neurath on Monday afternoon by the British Ambas sador, Sir Eric Phipps. At the 'close of this note, the question was re- peated whether the Reich Govern- ment is prepared when Sir John Simon visits Berlin to discuss the. points contained,, in the London The communique of February 3. Reich Minister answered this ques- tión in the affirmative.

i!

The publication of the text of the British Note is expected on Tuesday but from a semi-official source it is indicated that the gen- eral purpose can be guessed one recalls that the London com- munique stipulated that unilateral alteration of Part V or the Treaty of Versailles containing military 444-provisions of the treaty is not per- missible. As against this the Ger- "man standpoint is that the other signatories of the Treaty of Ver- sailles had failed to keep their agreements concerning disarina- ment, and, instead of disarming. were actually busty engaged in rearming.

to

16

It is taken as a matter of course that Sir John Simon will visit Ber- lin when there will be the oppor tunity to discuss all outstanding current questions and unsolved pro- blems. These deliberations, how- ever, will take place between the Governments with equal status, The purpose is, according to Ger- man wishes, that the Berlin dis- cussions may serve as the cause for the tranquilisation of Europe and the relaxation of the tension in the International situation.- Transocean Kuo Min
