SENIOR SHIELD
Police Beat Club Played in a real cup tie fashion the semi-final senior shield be- tween Police and Club resulted in a victory for the former by the only goal scored. Thrills were plentiful and football exciting
The main factor in the Club's defeat was the brilliant defence work of the Police intermediate- line which had the Club forwards shadowed from beginning, to end.
Howe and Bickford were literal- ly out of the picture, the former was well covered by Brooks and the latter by Gough, who, inci- dentally, played great spelling game for the Police,
Early in the game Rodger was called upon to deal with shots from all angles and be acquitted himself well. In quick succession he saved two almost certain goals from Johnson. Syd Strange tack- led well to keep the, Police at bay for a considerable time.
Following a shot which was pushed over for a corner, the Police kept the ball in Club's territory. The only goal resulted in Johnston rushing Rodger and kicking the leather out of the custodian's hands into the net following what appeared to be a misunderstanding between Strange and the keeper..
Club rallied but to no avail and in the second stanza Pile (T) sent in a couple of beautiful centres but Robertson was there to deal. with them.
}
The Police played up really well and were face value for their
victory.
JUNIOR SHIELD

Royal Engineers Through As expected, the Sappers were
masters of the Navy by the odd
goal in three. Extra time had to be played before a decision was arrived at The Navy had only themselves to blame for their defeat, as it one period they were all over the Sappers but poor marksmanship robbed them of goals. Chances were being missed by both sides at the opening but eventually Navy obtained. their lead through Dodds with a low drive.
