SHIELD SEMI-FINALS
Will Athletic Qualify?
(BY "PIVOT")
The Shield ties have now reached the semi final stages and four rames are down for decision this week end. The centre of attraction will be that between S. China “B” and the Athletic on the Sockungoo ground to-morrow afternoon when a grand game is in store for fans.
In the other game between Club and the Police this after-. noon a large crowd of supporters are sure to be present to en- Boourage their respective teams.
Club's team have the distinction; of being the only team that has Inficted a defeat on the all con- quering South China "A" and their win over them was well merited
be
They have a versatile leader 1. Howe who is well capable of tax-
line ing charge of the forward and, with Bickford on the left wing. will prove & continual source of danger and worry to the Police. Fowler too. on the right; good turn of Is capable with a
ать speed and can well shoot at acute angle with marked success. In the defence they have Syd Strange who will shoulder a great part of the work that will thrusted upon that department.. and Rodger in goal is safe. Their intermediate line. is mediocre. Much wUI depend on their pivot.
The chance of the Police, how- ever, must not be overlooked. Well balanced they are a fast moving team when they get going. Their forward line can obtain goals on -occasion, but time. and again I have seen their most promising efforts nullified in front of goal! by their dilly dallying coupled with miserable shooting.
Their half backs are Just a shade better than the Club's and with Gough, in the centre. Ranked by Parker on his left and Brooks or the right, will play a great part in the subduing of Howe &
Blackburn and Pile (C), are a palt of sound-back and can be depended upon to do their best.
the
I think this game will more or less develop into Club's forwards versus Police's defence with odds slightly in favour of Club All in all, a good, fast and in teresting game will be seen
CHINESE DERBY
an-
Will Athletic qualify to-morrow?
be This question can only swered. by the Athletle themselves. They have met their opponents before in the League and they have themselves to blame for hot having got away with both points. Athletic have at the moment, one of the brainiest teams Iccal
in soccer. In fact, their latest display hag. proved it. They are the mas- ters of the ever changing methods in attack. Much will depend on Chen Chen Wo and Tsui Ah Fel Their line of defence can be well relied upon to keep the nippy "B" forwards out and with Mak So and El Ping playing as well as ever South China "B" will have to look for other loopholes through which to penetrate the Athletic's" defence..
I hear Pau will be donning tha South China's colours once again in, this match. K. C, Chen tat Shanghat), will also be included. South China-"B"”—are-taking–no chances in this match, and run- our has it that that Inimitable Lee Wai Tong may be turning out tog.
1.
Fast, yet often flurried when hard pressed South China “E”'s defence will have to be on the top of their forra to check the Athletics. The teams will enter the field with confidence, and I 'think, for once, Athletic's confd- ence will not be wrongly placed.
JUNIOR SHIELD
The Navy v. RE's game will be a fast affair. The Bappers had the measure of the Navy mën in their league encounter a while ago and their chances of repeating this are very rosy.
