Holder Unimpressive

There were only three singles games played yesterday in the Open Championship. The "holder Tsut Wal Pil was seen "in" action against his younger brother Tsui Yan Pul and the form displayed by him was unimpressive, in fact had the younger brother pressed the advantage which he had in the final set we might have seen the elimination of the Champion. Taking the first set at 6-2 from his brother the holder fell off considerably in the second set and the younger man by dint of well placed, shots to the corners of the court and by brilliant smash ing annexed the second at 5-4

The final set saw th、n playing at full pace. First one and then the other led until at three all when the younger man led 4-3 and was then leading by 40-15 when by poor anticipation and reckless play he allowed the holder to snatch three games off him in a row.

Behind The Scenes

In Soccer:

No one played a more prominent part in the victory of Birmingham over the Arsenal' than Tom Filling- ham, who has long been regarded as the Blues' general utility man. Fillingham came into the team because of an injury to Morrell the regular, centre-half but on his prosent form is fully entitled to a permanent place in the side. Few half-backs bave bottled up Drake, the Arsenal centre-forward, like Fulingham did whilst in addition he found time to render Alec James harmless.

He was driving beautifully and covered the whole court with alacrity. Often running up to the net he put the finishing touches with a deft kill to annex the points.
