Two Second Division teams, Bolton and Burnley, pat two strong First Division contenders for the Cup (Everton and Man- chester City) out of the competition. Arsenal went down by the odd goal in three at Wednesday and Preston was eliminated at West Bromwich by the only roal scored. The four teams left in the semi-final round are Bolton, Burnley, Shefield Wednesday and West Bromwich..

ii

Sunderland sent Blackbarn away pointless to take second place

in on the League Table lying with Arsenal in points but the latter is a game in haud. At the other end of the Table more than half a dozen teams are struggling against re- legation,

With two games in hand Bolton are a point behind Brent- ford in the Second Division, with West Ham holding on grimly. The leaders of the Southern Section of the Third, Division, Charlton, were held to a draw by Coventry and Reading. their nearest rivals were held at Torquay. In the Northern Section, Doncaster strengthened their claims by beating Walsall whereas Tranmere lost a valuable point at York, and Chester claimed two points from: Halifar

In the Scottish League Celtic, Aberdeen and Hamilton lost, but the Rangers took full points away from Falkirk and Hearis had to share the spoils at Motherwell.

The results as cabled by Reuters, together with tables to date are as follows:
