He is herd of the movement, which has attracted very little at tention here, to divide New South Wales into the classic three parts. He is also Commonwealth Deputy Prime Minister.'

Nowhere is the New State move- ment stronger than in the Clar- ence River constituency, for which Dr. Page sits. His birthplace, Grafton, is one of the centres sug- gested as the capital of the pros- pective "New England."

Successful as surgeon and pas- toralist, Dr. Page is tireless in the New State cause. He has several stout supporters in the Common- wealth and New South Wales Legislatures His recent regaining of Cabinet office will also be help- ful to the movement.

Above, Chancellor Ottavanio reads Benvenuto's name among those to be hanged. Below, in circle, Ben-

·venuto Cellini, the great artist and lover.

The "affairs" of Benvenuto Cellini consist of more than being the best goldsmith of the 16th century. This talented Florentine has also seemingly endless affairs of the sword and of the heart." He becomes a favourite to the de Medico of Florence, the Duchess is trying to find an opportunity to make love to him and the Duke's nephew, made to grovel in the mira by Benvenuto, is sending a guard to kill him. Meanwhile, Renvenuto has a beautiful, but dumb model, who doesn't know what love is. And he had a tryst with Della, a Lady-in-Waiting to the Duchess, who is his one true love. In the midst of all these dangers-ond-these passions, Bellini's affairs are decidedly complicated

Count Maffilo's sturdy guard, a noted swordsman, was setting out from the count's home to locate and kill Benvenuto accord- ing to orders, the count believed. Suddenly he recalled that he had made a blunder. Benvenuto must not be killed with the sword until he, the count, was recovered of the worst of the in- juries that Benvenuto had so degradingly inflicted upon him.

The count realized that he could not hire his guard to slay Benvenu to and then claim that he did it himself in just revenge until he was able to leave his bed and be cuf

He called back the guard and bade him wait until such time as the count saw fit to give the order to kill Benvenuto. Do

"Otherwise, how can I claim to have done it if I am not able to yo out? You will have to await "the pleasure. of running the dirty beast through until such time as I command, but the pleasure will come to you, be assured," the Count explained.

"A pleasure, indeed," the guard assured him.

The guard lled. He had no in- tention of engaging Benvenuto Cellini in mortal combat with swords. He had other plans which he Intended to carry out plans that would save his own hide, and that was the extent of his interest in the affair

Rendezvous Della Bantini had no difficulty in getting away for her rendezvous with the man she loved, this night Sharp at midnight the guard she bribed unlocked the small door that formed a part of the big gate and Della found Benvenuto there with open arms

"The Duchess will need many A secret conference with you-in a word, she is in love with you at the moment":

But Benvenuto knew that it was not nonsense and that Della spoke the truth.

"I shall tell her that our troth is plighted, Delia, my beloved."

"It would delight her more than ever to know that, and to keep you from me."

• Nothing can keep me from you now. Della. The years, have been long since we were adolescent- lovers, now I shall not lose you again

"We shall always love each other, but I cannot let you forfelt your life even to lose you to her would be better."

"I am strong in the belief that she will save my life at least I hope so," and he told Della of all that happened between himself and the craven Count Maffio, starting back at the time the count was flanked by twelve armed friends and so vilely insulted him, and going into details over the fy eating episode.

Della cried out in horror.

"And you shall be my wife and come along with me and I shall, as always, amass a new fortune so that we may live in bliss together all of our lives," he told her.

Thus they left matters and talk- ed of other things for a while, but Deila would continue, at intervals

"Not a plate done already?" she cried.

"But a waxen model, gilded," he told her and asked her to lift it.

How clever. Do come here, you have my permission to sit beside me, the better to explain the mean- ̈ ing of all these designia.”

Benvenuto did so and was secret- 13 well pleased when she brushed rather tenderly against him.

It was past the fourth hour and daylight was creeping into the eastern sky before they parted. Benvenuto stood by the gate when Della signalled by pushing her handkerchief through the top grill. Benvenuto slipped the guard & golden florin. The guard was so pleased that he exclaimed, softly, I deserved." with delight.
