Canton, Feb, 22. Although the notes of the, Can-, ton Municiual Bank are quoted' -to-day-at-994 cents to the dollar, they are accepted everywhere even among the smaller shops. Num- erous measures are used to stabil- ize this paper money, and the lat- est scherrie is $1,000,000 loan in silver coins from a leading Chin- ese merchant.

Certain Hong Kong papers stat- ed that the Canton Municipal Bank bad secured a $20,000,000 loan from foreign sources 83 re- serve of the Bank. This report la branded as totally without founda- tion. To borrow Hong Kong money would have the effect of
