IS PEACE AN ILLUSION ?

11

Peace has been the subject of Mussolini's talks recently. It seems that it is necessary for dictators to

scoff at peace about once. a month, Especially must they brandish the sword in one hand at times when they have, in the course of very profitable diplomacy, appeared to wave an olive branch in the other. Too much of this

clive branch business might give somebody the notion that they were weaklings, having to obtain by far words what they are not

able to setze-by force.

'As usual, Mussolini was not merely calling peace an illusion: be was actively glorifying war, declaring that it alone "puts the stamp of nobility upon the peoples who have the courage to meet it." And he added. "This anti-pacificist spirit is carried by Fascism even into the life of the individual." But is it? Of course, the Fascist state wars against the individual and his rights. Yet it discourages war between individuals. And it war ennobles nations why not in- dividuals?
