The times registered on Saturday were, on the whole, on the slow side. This was particularly noticeable in the case of the 1935 griffins. The Maidens was won in 1.31.3. the Trials in 2.37.4 and the Hopeful Stakes in 2.05.3 This, bearing in mind 'the state of the course, was not at all good. Last year, with a few inches of mud on "the course, the times for these races were respectively 1.30.1, 2.39, 206.3.

With the grins performing so poorly-it is difficult to make. any forecast for the Derby Herod is the only one we have not seen in action Will he also. prove a disappointment, as Paci- fc Hall and Mistake Bay have proved?
