KEEN RACING AT KWANTI

Wakefield Pays Supporters 35-1 In Ladies' Race

There was some very keen racing at Kwanti ́yesterday, when large attendance was present to see the Fanling Hunt and Race Club's February Meeting.

In five of the six races, the result was very open and the race was not decided until the last few strides. The most notable suc- cess of the afternoon was the win by Wakefield 'In the Ladies' Race. Ridden by Miss E. Turbott, the pony paid his supporters $176.70 for a win.

-

Mr V. V. Needs from Shanghai won with Pride of Tsingtao in the Sheung Shui Steeplechase from Burgomaster. He rode a splendid raco.

FLUMMERY UPSETS FAVOURITES

In the opening race, Mr. Davis rode a very patient race to score a win over Belinda. The race was over two miles and Kilrea took turns with Lucy Glitters to strow the pace, but both were well beaten half a mile from home, when Be- inda and Flummery began to creep up on the leaders. In a gruelling race home, Mr. Davis got the better of Mr. Stanton's mount by a short head. Lucy Olltters, was third..

NO FEAR WINS

Soldier of Italy started a warm favourite for the Fat Chow Handi- cap, a hurdle race over a mile and a half. The pony led over a mile and a quarter, but when joined by 'No Fear put up a losing struggle in the home straight.

The two ponies were separated by a length over the last hurdle, but Soldier of Italy refused to be shaken off thereafter and put up a good race over the last fifty yards. No Fear on the other hand was equally game and ultimately won by a Jength. Widnes was third.

NEEDA WINS

1

Mr. Needa did not have to ride very hard on Pride of Tsingtao ta win from Burgomaster. These two drew all the betting. Tillicum went out to make the pace, but Burgo- master and Pride of Tsingtao were quickly up with him, and there was not much, in the race all the way round until coming in the home straight, when Pride of Tsingtan drew away to win easily by four lengths.

Five lengths separated Burgomaster from Tillicum. There were two other starters.

.......... FESTIVAL EVE .Festival Eve and Tom Cobley fought out an exciting Anish at the end of the Fox Hunter's Race

over about three miles of rough country. Tom Cobley led all the way and only failed when Festival Eve challenged him in the home straight. Mr. Morriss rude a good race here to win on the post. Jack O'Lantern was third.

FUSILIERS WELCOMED RETURN OF FORM

Plenty of interesting football was served during the week. end a feature of which was the welcomed return of form of the Fusillers, Forcing a creditable win over the Recrets on Sa- turday, they checked the advances of South China "A" yester- day when the unbeaten senior team was forced to a goalless draw. South China was certainly lucky as they were all spread- eagled and if the Fillers had been a little more steady in front of goal the Chinese would have left the field a beaten- team.

On Saturday South Ching "A" just managed to beat the Navy which was abo against the run of the play.

Playing better football than the China Athletic the Gun- ners forced a good victory yesterday by four goals to two, thanks to the brilliant display given by Durham, Morton and Par-

doo.
