Although traces of the actual uccupation of Hembury in the Early Iron Age are still scant, the excavation work has provided abundant evidence of both the babitation and fortification of the bill in the Late Stone Age. During the previous season's work post boles and hearths and cooking pite of Neolithic huts were brought to light, and two or three sections of the characteristic interrupted' ditch were uncovered. Not a trace of these is visible on the surface.
