TRAINING GALLOPS

Herod Still Favourite For The Derby

(BY "MORNING DEW")

The training on Saturday was on the slow side due to the state of the course. Interest?was added to the gallops by the presence on the course of Messrs. D. SALA (who is riding for Messrs. Sinkiang Rumour Denied

Nanking, Jan. 26. Marshal Chiang Kai Shek and Mr. Wang Ching Wel, President of the Executive Yuan, have re- plied jointly to a telegram in which the sinklang authorities brand as a malicious rumour the charge that the province is under Boviet domination."

The reply points cut that the employment of foreign advisers is subject to the approval of the Foreign Office and therefore re- quests full particulars.

It says that no reply has been received to the request for the full text of the agreement by which Sinklang arranged to re- ceive credit from the Soviet and pay back in kind, and emphasises that all loans 'and credits must be first approved by the Central au- thorities- --Reuter:

Five men made a forced entry to an unnumbered house in Cap Tuk Village, on Lama Island just before midnight on Friday and stole $16 in cash, and clothing valued at $9.

The Inmates of the house, Chan Ting, a spinster, and her mother were awakened by the sound of the main door being forced open. Five men then entered and threa- tened them with knives and iron bars.

The mother immediately cried out "thieves thieves" whereupon she was knocked on the head with a piece of wood by one of the men, who afterwards stuffed some rags into her mouth,

The robbers who were masked remained in the house for 15 minutes after which they left ini the direction of Tal Ping Village.. No arrests have been made the Police.
