Captain C. c. Dobson, V.C., D.S.O., has elected to retire volun- tarlly on attaining the age of 50 years. By a coincidence he stood tieth on the active list of 240 captains, and at the present rate of advancement to flag rank he could not have expected to become a rear-admiral before reaching the age of 53. The retiring age limit for the rank is 35.
