CUNARD LINE'S DIARY OF LOCAL

OLD HISTORY

Original Deeds Discovered

Cunard-White Star Company, in a Sir Percy Bater Chairman of the letter to the Press reveals that the original vellum deeds of the forma Lion of Cunard Steam Ship Com-- pany recently came into the possession of the company.

The deeds were by a chance cir- cumstance discovered in archives, where they had lainang-forgotten since deposited for gate custody in 1839-40.

In tracing the development of the company, Sir Percy refers to the hope of Immortality in bust- ness as well as in dividuals, and states that it is easy to see this, throughout Cunard history.

He writes: "These men (the original partners) meant to aur vive, if not in their bodies, at least in their idea. They wanted to do the best that could be done across the Atlantic, Transatlantic service was their aim."

Lt. Cmdre-W. R, Fell, to Alecto, Jan. 5; C. C. Hardy, to Pembroke.
