Racing Strain Pays $122.50 In Ladies Race

(BY MORNING DEW")

There was a good attendance at Kwani yesterday when the The Fanling Bunt and Race Club held their January Meeting. raclur was keen and several close Buishes were seen. Outsiders shared honours with favourites and as a result some very hand- some dividends were paid:

Among the large gathering were HE the Governor and lady. Peel, H.E. Admiral Sir Frederic Dreyer, HE. Major General O, C. Barrett and Mrs. Borreit, His Honour Mr. Justice A. D. A. Mac- Gregor, and the Hon. Mr. C. Gordan Mackie and Mrs. Mackie.

The biggest dividend of the"day was pala in the Ladies Hurdle Race, when Racing Strain upset severak-warm favourites to pay his supporters $122.50 each,

Belinda Wins First Race

The first race for Australian

ponies drew eight starters. Belinda looked the best in the paddock and as events subsequently proved, she was the best pony in the race. Kilrea set the pace most of the way, followed at first by Lucy Glitters and in the later stage of the race by Kashgar. Laicy Gutters did not jump too well and Kashgar threw his jockey when six furlongs from home. Mr. Stanton -riding Belinda asked his mount for an effort when there was still half a mile to go and the pony responded at once. Leading into the straight, Belinda came in a winner by four lengths. Many lengths behind Kirea came Lucy Glitters. Kobibel was the only other pony to finish.

LADIES HURDLE RACE

Miss Scott Harston on Spinaway and Miss Shenton on Wembly Stas were in great demand by punters in the Ladies race, but Spinaway showed a great dislike to the

hurdles, while Miss Shenton was thrown from her mount just as: she was coming along nicely in the home straight, to dispute the race with the leaders.

A quarter of a mile after the start of the race, Mrs. Ropes rid- ing Bay of Calamity was thrown when the pony stumbled. Happy Hit Racing Strain and Marina were conspicuous all the way and In a close finish Happy Hit got the better of Marina, only to allow Racing Strain to come along in the final run home to stop him from winning.

SHA TAU KOK STEEPLECHASE

Over a mile and three quarters,” Burgomaster and Pride of Tsingtao provided a thrilling race. First GRE and then the other took the lead in a field of five but after the rat mile Bürgomaster appeared to have settled the issue and drew in front but some six lengths. In the next six furlongs, Pride of Tsingtao

gradually reduced the lead until at

the Distance Post he had practical ly drawn level. Thereafter in a close tusset home, the two kept neck-and-neck, but after the last hurdle Burgomaster found his stride a little sooner than Pride of Tsingtao and that enabled him to get home about half a length in front of Pride of Taingtao.
