known Almost instaneously the whole ter- ritory became one blaze of colour, every house hanging out faga, and garlands. The streets were soon thronged with people who ran hither and thither cheering wildly and shaking hands emotionally and congratulating one another.
Even in the most optimistic mo- ments of the prolonged plebiscite campaign it had never been ex- pected that the majority for the reincorporation into the Reich would be so overwhelming and facilitate the task of the League of Nations Council so greatly. The entire Saar has suspended all rou- tine activities. Church bells are peeling incessantly. In the even- ing there was a great torchlight procession to mark the - filstoric event

FLAGS APPEAR
Geneva, Jan. 15. Although a big German victory was expected. the size of the majority came as a big surprise in League circles where reller was ex- -pressed for the definite" establish- ment of the fact that the anti- German minority of ten per cent. removes the last check on handing back the Baar to Germany.
It is expected that the Council meeting either to-day or to- morrow will fix a date in the near future for the return of the Saar to Germany.- [Router,
