Island v Mainland
- After being three goals down the Mainland staged a remarkable re- covery on New Year's Day in a football match against an Island team. The receipts of the game were in aid of the Children's play- ground Fund: A large crowd was present to witness the game and was not in the least disappointed by the fare served.
The game started at a fast pace, Durham being very prominent in goal.
Swain opened the scoring for the Islanders, by daflecting the ball Into his own net from a centre by Lee Kwok Wai and not long after Tay Quee Liang cut in towards goal
to score after a brilliant solo effort. Just before the interval a penalty. was given against "Ash for hands, and Pardoe made no mistake.
Great Recovery
In the second half, the Mainland team rallied and swept the Islan- ders off their feet, English netting their first goal with a header from Gosano's centre. Then Elliott fur- ther decreased the lead with a good goal, and five minutes from time B. Gosano cut in from the right wing to score a perfect goal, the best of the match
The teams were:- Island:-Durham

TRAINING GALLOPS
Impressive Finish By Lucky Strike
`(BY". ↑ MORNING DEW")
The outstanding feature of yesterday's training at Happy Yalley was the excellent last quarter of Ebcky Strike, at the and of a slow gallop over a mile. This pony shows plenty of promise and might do well at the forthcoming annual meeting.
Wadebridge, Touchstone, Latitat and Bold Soldier were among those which moved well.
The griffins are all moving faster now and one candidate which impressed yesterday was Rose Queen. An examination of the times she returned is Huminating:
