Confidential reports on the markets for various commodities in a number of countries have recently been issued by the De- partment of Overseas Trade, 35, Old Queen-street, London, S.W.I.

A list of these is given below, together with the reference num ber, which should be quoted by United Kingdom firms when mak- ing application to the Depart- ment for copies. NEW BRITISH CONTRACTS

Messrs. Peter Brotherhood, Limited, Peterborough, have re-. ceived numerous orders for com pressors from Government De- partments and engineering firms at home and abroad. Messrs. Merryweather and Sons, Limited, Greenwich-road. Lon- don, SE.10, have secured the con- tract for the whole of the fire- pumping équipment to be install- ed on board a steel screw. tug, 90 _ft, in length, recently ordered by the Manchester Ship Canal Com- pany for towing, berthing and manoeuvring large vessels, and also for fire and salvage work. The equipment comprises two Greenwich Gem pre and salvage "pumps, each delivering 2,000 gal- lons per minute, together with two four-way deck suction heads, one four-way delivery head, three monitors, a large quantity of suction and delivery hose, nad two Fire Suds generators, each. allvering 500 gallons of foam per. minute, for dealing with oil and petrol fires,

In the engine rooms, hose systema, Impregnated sand, carbon dioxide and foam- type extinguishers will be on hand in case of fire. Wide corridors. well Highted and well marked with zuiding signs, are to be provided to facilitate the movement of passen- gers to their boat stations.

Fire proof draft doors are being installed in every section of the ship thereby limiting any outbreak of fire to one particular subdivision of the ship making it a simple matter to confine the fire to the small area of that section. There, will be lifeboats to accommodate all passengers and crew. These can be lowered to disembarking position by a single man in one minute. Each lifeboat, which will accommodate more than 115 per- sons, will be motor-driven and can be lowered with the engine going
