Nikolayev against
and thirteen other rebel Communists who were accused of plotting the assassination of Kirov.
The indictment declares that former members of the Zinovieff "Opposition Group" in Leningrad planned the coup with the object Di changing the policy of the Soviet Government and placing Zinovieff and Trotsky in power. They sought to accomplish this by acts of terrorism againat Soviet Beaders..
The group counted on armed as- sistance from certain foreign states, Nikolayev apparently ad- mits that he negotiated with the undamed consulate with regard to assistance for the plotters. The consulate is said to have supplied the rebels with money.
Furthermore, the consulate said it could establish connections with Trotsky if Nikolayev, gave them a letter from the group to the form- er Soviet leader.

that Stato, Molotov, Kaganovitch and Kirov were to be removed, to be replaced by Trotsky, Zinovie and Kamenev.
It had been the aim of the conspirators to make Trotzky leader of the Boi- shevist regime.
In order
to attain his goal Nikolayev is said to have entered Into relations with a certain for- eign consulate. Foreign observers, however, give little credence to these stories, pointing out that it is clear hat Nikolayev killed Kirov for a personal grudge, holding that Kiroy was responsible for his dismissal from his post, his degra dation and his long unemployment.
