The propelling machinery, af each vessel, which is designed to provide a service speed of 151 kroti in each ship, econsists of two Workman Clark-Sulzér, single-act- ing. two-stroke, "airless-injection, Diesel engines, each having six cylinders and developing 4,800 s.hp. 'nt. 135.r.p.m. These are the first of their type to be built in the Bri- tish Isles.

Auxiliary Machinery

All the auxiliary machinery in each ship is electrically-driven, and power for this purpose is sup- plied by four Ruston and Hornsby five-cylinder Diesel generating units, each developing 150 b.h.p. at 600 rp.m.

An oil-fired Cochran donkey boiler, working at a pressure of 100 lb. per square inch, is provided for supplying the mergency air compressor and other equipment requiring the use of steam.
