Morning Simplicity Afternoon Richness Evening Brightness
In the Paris half-season col- lections there is more than a hint of spring to remind us that when winter comes it is quickly follow- ed by a more hopeful period of the year. pleasant reminder when " the days are dark.
Chanel has gone all out for colour: She has made a collection of bright, printed materials ard has transformed them into dress and coat ensembles. "A figured dress and a plain coat are old companions, but they look new when the materials and colours are changed. Apple green with white spots, bright red with white, spots, and many variations on these two combinations are used.
A plain dark coat, weil cut, long, and lined with the dress material. looks right and is prac- Meal. The bodice of the dress is loose fitting, with a front fasten- ing and a wide, soft fchu collar, or some other soft drapery. It has long sleeves, either of the shirt waist hlouse shape or close fitting to the wrists.
Chanel's coats and skirts are all made with long waistlines and belted at the waist, leaving the basque with a slight spring to it. Some have the basque sit behind. The Lited line at the front of the waist is notable, since it gives tilt to the silhouette which is smart.
For the evening Chanel makes skirts wide at the hem, slender hips, and little jacket bodies which fasten down the front. The decollete may be rounded.. pointed, square, and not very low. There may be little sleeves, and many dresses are accompanied by a full ruched tulle cape. Crepes, laces, tulle, spotted mus lins are used for evening dresses in soft colours and in black and white.

Another unusual trimming is a garland of fruit caught across the front of a waistbelt; or cherries with their leaves and stalks, cur- rants, grapes, anything you like in the way of small fruits. E

The late afternoon and infor- mal evening dresses are simply made in black crepes and figured muslins. The stately formal dresses are made in all taffetas In clear, bright colours, with full skirts and easy bodices.

Beautiful Valvet Evening Cloaks would make an appreciated gift. Handkerchiefs of Irish Linen and " Hand Embroidered are a change from the usual Swatow Drawn Work and are always useful

Hygiene And The Beauty Box
The finest preparations for cos- metic use are made under the supervision of skilled chemists in laboratories which full every demand of modern hygiene.
Creams are packed in jars with tight-fitting screw tops, and are protected additionally by a seal, ing-inside. Lotions come in air. tight and dustproof battles. Fow- ders are sealed within a paper "container before the lid of the box

All these precautions are taken to ensure that the various con- tents shall be absolutely free from impurities and can" in no way suffer from exposure the air.
Then the purchaser takes them home, and all too often pushes haphazard into a drawer, where they share accommodation with dust collecting oddments, or else leaves them exposed on dressing table or bath-room shelf, The tops of Jars and bottles are re-. placed 'carelessly so that dust can creep in.
