Government's Policy Upheld At LordsTM
London Dec. 19.
By a majority of nearly four to one, the House of Lords last night endorsed the Government's polloy In the future constitution of India. The vote was exceptionally large in the Upper House and Lord Salisbury's amendments advocat ing a policy of delay was defeated by 239 votes to 62—a result which a pleasant surprise to came as Government supporters.
As last week the House of Com- mons passed the Clovernment motion by 410 votes to 127, the way is now clear for introduction of the Government's India B which will be given formal first
reading this week.
་
One peculiarity of the votes was that in the Commons, the Labour Party were included in the minority of 127 whereas the Lords Labour Peers
