Unfortunate Incidents Mar Good Games

(BY "PIVOT"},

The standard of football in some of the Senior games yes- terday left much to be desired in the matter of clean play and sportsmanship.

In the E. Lancs v. China Athletic games in the senior and Junior divisions rough, dangerous and questionable play was much in evidence although in the senior game Athletic came" out on top after the East Lanes had the better of the game in the second half.

The refereeing in some of the games was also not up to standard. Many decisions were open to question especially in the R.A. v. St. Joseph's and E, Lancs. v. Athletic games,

St. Joseph's although much augmented by the inclusion of several new Army players could not withstand the onslaught of the Gunners and lost by two clear goals.

Recreio just scriped home against the Club, and South China "B" suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of the Navy in an exhibition game...

CLUB BEAT ARMY

In Keenly Fought Rugger Match

The Club secured their first win in the Triangular Rugby Tourna ment on Saturday, when playing well together they outmanouvred the Army with their speed and tackling. The final score was 18 points to five in their favour,

Lammert was unable to turn up for Club, with the result that there was a last-minute re-shuffle of the team, but the changes did not seem to impair the excellent combination of the team.

United Services

Victorious

The United Services beat the Civillans yesterday on the Marina ground by two goals to one.

The game was one of the best played and a drawn game would have been a nung result.

Surgeon Commander Phillips did not turn out, his place being taken by Lieut Roissier of the Lincolns. Benior who was originally selected to play at outside right took the centreforward berth vacated by Lt. Currey, who was on the sick list, Sergeant Reekes appeared on the right wing.

BOISTEROUS WEATHER

Monsoon Breaks Mainmast: Luana Topmast

Yachtamen encountered very heavy weather conditions qut- mido during yesterday's races and balling out was frequently necessary in nearly every boat.

The Luana broke her topmast in the course of the race für the Second Cruiser Championship. This might have handicap- pod her somewhat, but Commodore F. Elliott, R.N., managed to bring her in to finish third to "U, and L." (Mr. II. S. Rouse) and Aluma. (Mr. H, J.' Pearea),

11

Monsoon (Mr. R. Grieve), lost her mathmast and Wanderer, with Mr. C. C. Blake at the helin, went to render amistance. As a conseqtience neither finished in its respective race.

The "W" Class was wòn by Maire (Cmdr. Orr-Ewing, R.N.) from: Mistral (Mr. G. V. T. Marshaḥ) and Tern (Captain P. F. .Foley), ..

A brilliant attempt by Hardy was very spec tacular, but he was stopped just before crossing.
