Prospects of the Champions: DIARY OF LOCAL

Macao Races Discussed

¡BY "MORNING DEW")

What a meeting we had last Saturday! The mile and a hall record set by Liberty Bay will stand for a long time, I am certain. Long after Liberty Bay's, racing days are over his performance will be recalled by racegoers with glowing en- thustasin. The time was remarkable and every record WAS: broken in the course of his run round the mile and a half, except his own for a mile and a quarter! Liberty Bay' wil nɔt.. be running in the Antumn Champions, but unless he is dead by next February, nothing will stop him from winning the Champions at the Annual Meeting.

The Autumn Champions looks, on paper, an excellent thing for Soldier of Britain, but I am not so sure that Mr. Li Shiu Pang's grey will have things all his own way. I put him down as capable of doing about 2.29 for the mile and a quarter and if that is the case, he is not ikely to walk | away from Hetman, Gleneagles or King's Justice. Gleneagles has been rested since his last appear ance three weeks ago, and will go to the post a strong contender for the honours. I liked the looks of Hetman when he ran alongside Liberty Bay in the first half mile of the race on Saturday, and 1 he can be held in for a bit, there is no telling what kind of a race he will be able to put up against Soldier of Britain. Brilliant 'Star has qualifled for the Champlonis. and although I do not expect him to win, those looking for an out-mind some big dividends paid in
